My Book: ‘Opening Up To Abstract’
The way photography is typically seen leaves the viewer with a concrete understanding of what they are looking at. This book is an attempt at breaking away from these perspectives and challenging the audience to think more about an image. Abstract photography makes you work harder for pictures, because it is harder to create a good image. It makes the photographer take a second look and think more about color or lighting because sometimes that is what makes the shot great.
I chose this topic because I wanted to challenge myself and do something different. Most of my work up to this point has consisted of landscapes and my immediate surroundings. Abstract photography has been something I’ve overlooked. When I would go out to take pictures, I tried to find things that caught my eye, but not in the way traditional photographs are shot. It was important for me through this process not to limit myself, it was the photos I would normally walk by that really had me interested.
